How did you come up with The Dirty Dingo?
I must admit, it was a random process that started in college algebra classes. I wanted to practice some anthro and Brandon’s personality came out as one of the first concepts. After more sketches I couldn’t help but start building them into actual characters with lives. After I had sent about a month or two putting things together I had a pretty good idea of what could happen to the characters. Over time however, I changed some of the character’s designs, histories, and personalities. As for now, I know how the story is going to go from here until the finale, but sometimes I’ll have little epiphanies with how I can present it visually.
What do you use to make comics?
I use Adobe Photoshop CS4 and a Wacom Tablet to color the pages and letter them, but the pages are always sketched out with pencil and paper to begin with. For the website, I use Wordpress with Webcomic 2.0 to publish scaled pages online.
So why did you pick The “Dirty” Dingo for the title?
Well, not because of the obvious possibles of any euphemism. It refers to a bit of warfare psychology/propaganda that I’ll be getting into towards the end of the comic, a little bit of foreshadowing, and because of the alliteration. Alliteration is awesome.
Why don’t you draw/paint more humans instead of anthro?
It’s not that I don’t draw humans, that’s quite far from the truth. In my art classes the human figure is visited on a consistent basis, but that’s not always very relaxing or fun. For mere sketches I tend to do more anthropomorphic work because it makes me happy and allows for more variety in characteristics. For artwork, I only really use anthro if it’s part of the concept (i.e. The Dirty Dingo is anthropomorphic because I wanted a more approachable and lighthearted style).
I do have multiple ideas for graphical novels I’ll be doing in the future, the majority of those will not be anthropomorphic because of the content, it just wouldn’t have the same effect.
